Back Again
Quite a bit has happened in that last 15 months since I posted. Liam's 1.5 years old with a chronic humping problem. I'm married, left the web development industry completely to work for the government, swapped the Jetta for a BMW, went to Hawaii (I want to move there and live off of loco moco), Disney World, DC (5 times), Yuma and Phoenix... and after 10 years of waiting, I finally saw Matthew Good live at the Middle East during his solo acoustic tour. That's about it for now.

Happy 06/06/06.
Life Lesson: If your boss calls you up on a Saturday morning, 99.999% of the time
he probably wants you to come into the office for something. The other 0.001%
of the time he wants to know if you're interested in free, 3rd row, center stage tickets to
Radiohead. My life is complete.

Chicago
I'm a homeowner now. If cutting grass didn't make me feel old, watching the first of
my friends from college get married didn't help. Congrats Mike and Liz Burton.
Since the wedding was in Rockford, Il, Rita, Jeff, Mark, Alice and I spent a day
walking around Chicago, which is alot like New York, only cleaner and friendlier.

6 Month Hiatus
I just completely ignored this blog for the last 6 months. If you
visited anytime since January you probably noticed that this page just
didn't work at all and got "MYSQL ERROR: blah blah blah". My bad.
Anyways, since I last wrote about FEMA's
failure to adequately prepare Pittsburgh for Zombie attacks, I've left PTC
and am now working at Prospectiv. I also bought a house, had an APD reunion
at Mohegan Sun, became a regular at Gypsy Bar (never had to wait in line or
pay a cover thanks to Mike), won my fantasy football league (thank you Sean Alexander),
saw Spamalot and INXS (thanks Ruth), became a big fan of Battlestar Galactica (nothing
can top Scrubs though) and am trying to unravel the question everyone wants to know the answer
to: Is Karl Pilkington a giant retard or a genius? Either way, he has the roundest head I've ever seen.
I haven't been to Florida in eight months, that's a record.
Rather than ramble on I'll just leave you with these entertaining links:

FEMA Fails Again
We all know that the Bush Administration is always slow to react and prepare for nationwide, emergency situations, but this is where I draw the line!

Around the world
I woke up this morning from la-la-land with a random thought in my mind (as usual). The world is all about numbers, so here's a few interesting figures:
My average one way commute: 25 miles
My average daily roundtrip commute: 50 miles
Total Weekly commute: 250 miles
Total yearly commute (52 weeks): 13,000 miles
Circumference of the Earth at 30 degrees latitude*: 34,705km = 21,565 miles
* Equation is [C = 2* pi * r * cos(x)] where pi = 3.14159, r = Earth's equatorial radius, 6378 km and x = angle of latitude, in this case 30 = 34,705km.
So at my pace, I can drive around the world in 86 weeks. This number isn't completely accurate because the world is "fatter" around the waist and not a true sphere, but it is close enough for me. Also, latitude makes a huge difference, if you want to be a real trooper and drive around the largest portion (at the equator, 0 degree latitude), your trip would be 40,074km which is about 24,901 miles ~ 100 weeks.
In about two years of commuting from my apartment in Malden to PTC in Needham I would travel far enough to circumnavigate the world. Just a thought. But let's go one step further:
Gas Mileage when Driving Around the World (24,901 miles)
| Vehicle |
Fuel Efficiency |
Required Gallons |
Cost for Gas @ $1.79/gallon |

| Cadillac Escalade |

$3,183.77 |
| Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T |
25 mpg |
996.4 |
$1,783.56 |
| Honda Civic Hybrid |
40 mpg |

I'll let the numbers speak for themselves.
4 days till Florida, the only thing in my way is a nor'easter this thursday.
